Courses
Barlow Jeep School provides professional 4x4 driving instruction and training. Regular group courses are conducted in the Table Mesa area, near Phoenix, Arizona. Private, custom training is available in Sedona AZ (the world famous Sedona Jeep School), and at a variety of locations throughout the western U.S.
Regular group classes are scheduled throughout the fall, winter, and spring months, October through May. Courses fill up fast, so book ahead! Class size is kept small for maximum effectiveness. Click here for a current calendar of courses.
Private courses are available by appointment, year-round, 7-days a week, so that your course is tailored to your specific vehicle, skill level and interest.

Beginners:
Intro to Off-Highway Driving
This is our most basic course for drivers who are new to the whole concept of backcountry 4-wheeling, with little or no knowledge of mechanics or vehicle dynamics. We introduce basic mechanics of your 4x4 systems, move slowly and utilize easier terrain to experience fundamental off-highway driving, and gain some basic safety & 4wd driving techniques, while learning land use ethics in a variety of situations. Get some dirt on the tires!
Vehicle requirements: 4L equipped, off-pavement tires (LT, AS, AT).
Half-day (3-4 hours)

Explorers:
Comprehensive 4-Wheeling
This comprehensive hands-on lesson includes basic preparation, 4wd driving techniques, trail etiquette and basic recovery procedures in a variety of terrain and obstacle types. Learn how to read trails and analyze obstacles. Learn how to anticipate how your vehicle is going to react in different circumstances. Perfect for the outdoor recreation-oriented driver who wants to use 4wd to explore and enjoy the backcountry responsibly.
Vehicle requirements: 31” or taller tires, skid plates, recovery points.
One-Day Course (5-6 hours)

Adventurers:
Intensive 4-Wheeling
For those who have previously had some 4x4 training, build on the fundamental skills with more advanced techniques for traction, line analysis, trip planning, and recovery. This course is more demanding of both driver and vehiclepinstriping and a skid plate work out are likely, so discussing your specific experience and vehicle set-up with an instructor is required before you book this. Though strenuous, the emphasis is safety and responsible trail use.
One-Day Course (5-6 hours)
Group course held at Table Mesa:
$169 per vehicle
Vehicle requirements: Non-stock rigs with 32” or taller tires (3-ply sidewall), skid plates, recovery points, lift, traction device recommended.

Special Clinics
From time to time, Barlow’s offers topic-specific courses: winching and advanced recovery, low impact wheeling & camping, rock-crawling workshop, vehicle-based survival, etc. Often, we bring in guest speakers for these courses, and some are open to non-4wd vehicle owners, too. Gift Cards
Barlow Jeep School Gift Cards make a great gift for birthdays and holidays, especially for that hard-to-buy-for person on your list! We send you a gift card via USPS Priority (overnight may be possibleask us). Gift cards are good for any services provided by Barlow's at any location, including 4x4 courses and Jeep rentals in Sedona, Moab, Table Mesa, etc. Choose from the course and rental options below, or if you want to purchase a gift card for any dollar amount from $25 to $500, please call our office for service. If you need something in a hurry, we can email you a version that you can print at home on standard paper.
